Abstract
1,221,595. Rubber bound antioxidants. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 19 Nov., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 54838/68. Heading C3P. A polymer containing epoxy groups is rendered age resistant by reacting it with either an aromatic amine having at least one functional group reactive with an epoxy group or a phenolic compound containing at least one functional group in addition to the phenolic hydroxy group capable of reaction with an epoxy group. In the examples a butadiene-styrene-glycidyl acrylate copolymer is reacted with p-aminodiphenylamine, N,N<SP>1</SP> - di(1 - methylheptyl) - pphenylene diamine and N-isopropyl-N<SP>1</SP>-phenylp-phenylene diamine and an isoprene-glycidyl acrylate copolymer is reacted with 4-hydroxymethyl-2,6-ditertiary butyl phenol and 2,5-ditertiaryamyl-1,4-hydroquinone. The isopreneglycidyl acrylate polymer is prepared by aqueous emulsion polymerization using AZDN in the presence of a mercaptan.
