Abstract

1,221,387. Electric cut-outs. LUCIEN FERRAZ & CIE. 11 Sept., 1969 [27 Sept., 1968: 4 July, 1969], No. 44865/69. Heading H2G. A fuse cartridge, a twin unit being shown, has a heat resistant insulating body 1 with parallel perforations 1a which contain in their elliptical cross-section a stepped fusible strip 2 embedded in arc-quenching material 3. These strips are connected at each end to metal end-plates 4 with terminals 5. Cooling units C, D, E, comprise cooling plates 7, 8 between which is soldered a heat dissipating copper tube in a zig-zag configuration. A cooling fluid flows in the tube to remove heat collected by the copper cooling plates. Metallization of the insulating body surface ensures good thermal contact with the respective cooling plates. In Figs. 7, 8 (not shown) heat is dissipated by air cooled fins attached to the cooling plates, with fins of a twin fuse unit being interlinked. In Figs. 9, 10 a fuse cartridge has one end plate connected to a cooled current carrying bar such that cooling plates attached to this one end plate dissipate their heat through it, and hence through the cooling of the bar itself.
