Abstract

1,220,855. Bagging machines; endless conveyers. A. C. FORMO. 9 April, 1968 [26 April, 1967], No. 17069/68. Headings B8A and B8C. The attitude of paddles 5, Fig. 1, pushing articles into bags 100, is controlled at the arcuate ends of their endless paths by devices which rotate unidirectionally. The paddles 5, Fig. 4, on arms 6, pivot about a shaft 7 which is attached to a pair of endless chains 9 and 11. The end of each shaft 7, adjacent the chain 11, has a crank-arm 29 with a pair of rollers 30 which engage guides 31 to control the attitude of the paddles along the straight stretches and partially at the arcuate stretch adjacent the bagging end of the machine, Fig. 8. At this end of the machine, a rotor 38 engages a blade 40 on the crank arm 29, and hence is levered through a right-angle causing the paddle 5 to similarly change its orientation, and retract from the filled bag. At the article feed end of the machine, Fig. 4, an elongated spindle 37 of one of the rollers 30 is engaged by the end of an arm 32 which rotates off-centre of the centre of the sprocket 15 of chain 11, hence causing the shaft 7 to rotate as it progresses around the arcuate end of the chain, so that the paddle maintains its orientation. The bags 100 can be opened by air jets and are held open by a reciprocating spreader 24.
