Abstract

1,220,741. Curing epoxy resins. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 19 April, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 18531/68. Heading C3B. Epoxy resins are cured by a mixture of (I) a polythiol having an average of more than one thiol group per molecule and (II) a catalytic quantity of a triethylenediamine. I, which may be present 0À02 to 25 parts by weight per part of epoxy resin, may be a simple monomeric polythiol, e.g. ethane dithiol or it may be polymeric e.g. a mercaptan terminated polysulphide, polyester, polyalkylene glycol or polyurethane or a mercaptan containing polymer of butadiene. II which may comprise 0.05 to 25% by weight of the composition may be 1,4- diazabicyclo[2.2.2.]octane or an alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aralkyl, amino or isocyanate derivative thereof, e.g. the 4-methyl derivative. The compositions may contain conventional fillers and extenders; they may be cured at room temperature or with heating.
