Abstract
1,220,656. High voltage measuring resistors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Aug., 1969 [8 Aug., 1968], No. 39154/69. Heading H1S. A high-voltage measuring resistor (for use between a cable) and a current-measuring instrument comprises: (i) a tubular conductive sheath 1 filled with epoxy resin or insulating oil, with two partly-ceramic end-members 2, 3 for receiving plugs on h.v. cables; (ii) an interconnecting conductor 6; (iii) a ceramic insulating support 13 carrying a resistance element 12 which is connected between the interconnecting member 6 (at 17) and an insulated terminal 10. The resistance element 12 may be a cylindrical layer of vapour-deposited SnO and may be cut helically. Alternatively, it may be formed from about 5000 series-connected helically arranged carbon resistors wound helically about part of the support 13. The support 13 and endmembers 2, 3 are shaped such that there are long creepage paths 19, 23, 24 between the h.v. interconnecting conductor and the terminal 10 and earthed sheath 1. To reduce the overall length while maintaining the creepage lengths (Fig. 2, not shown), one end of support (13) and one endmember (2) may have enlarged hollow cylindrical end-portions which surround but are spaced respectively from the ends of the other endmember (3) and the other end of the support (13).
