Abstract

1,220,244. Coatings. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 30 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 41481/68. Heading B2E. Objects are protected from corrosion by coating their surface with a solution or dispersion in an organic solvent or dispersion medium of a wax composition comprising (a) 1 part by weight of a branched chain fatty acid (C 24 -C 60 ), obtained by oxidizing the corresponding "Guerbet" primary alcohol (C 24 - C 60 ), and/or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal of such an acid, and (b) up to 7.5 parts by weight of a paraffin that has a melting point above 70‹C, and/or a polyolefin wax that has a mean molecular weight below 20,000 and/or an ozocerite. The application of the wax solutions or dispersions may be effected in known manner by brushing dipping or spraying. Suitable solvents or dispersing media are aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Objects so protected are the bottom plates of motor cars, motor cars and vessels.
