Abstract

1,220,236. Measuring speed of particles, electrically. TRW Inc. Feb. 16, 1968, No. 7733/68. Heading G1N. Micro-meteorites are detected by two thin film capacitors 22, 18 which are no longer supported by the substrates on which they were prepared arranged so that a micro-meteorite travelling along any one of a given range of paths penetrates capacitors 22 and 18 in succession to produce two electrical pulses and the time between the pulses is measured. Each detector capacitor may comprise a thin film of dielectric between thin film electrodes mounted on a ring Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, a single thin film electrode supported by a wire mesh may be used as one electrode and a ring as the other Fig. 4, (not shown). Details of processes for making the thin films are given.
