Abstract

1,220,047. Fluid pressure operated brakes and clutches. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 4 Sept., 1969 [10 Sept., 1968], No. 43785/69. Heading F2F. In a power assisted hydraulic system for actuating the brakes or clutch of a motor vehicle in which operation of a piston 5 in a master cylinder 1 is mechanically assisted by hydraulic pressure in a chamber behind the piston which pressure is produced by a pump 3 in responds to brake operation, a second chamber 11 is formed between the piston and master cylinder and arranged for connection to the fluid reservoir and a sealing collar 14 disposed towards the inner end of the piston is arranged to co-operate with a plurality of bores 15 in the piston to permit the fluid to flow only from the second chamber 11 to the pressure chamber 10 during actuation of the brakes or clutch. As shown the master cylinder is formed as an assembly with a booster cylinder 2 having a piston 6 operated by a rod 17 and movement of piston 6 closes a valve 7 so that piston 5 is driven mechanically.
