Abstract

1,219,763. Hydroformylation. JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO. Ltd. 30 Jan., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 5039/67. Addition to 1,138,601. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydroformyl. ated by reaction with CO and H 2 in the presence of a liquid medium including a basic substance and as catalyst either (i) a halide or pseudohalide complex of a Pt group metal; or (ii) a hydrido carbonyl complex of a Pt group metal, both (i) and (ii) also containing at least one ligand which is either (a) an organic isocyanide; or (b) a compound containing a donor atom of groups 5B or 6B; or (c) when (i) is a rhodium or iridium halide, a stannous or germanium (II) halide. The base may be a hydroxide, carbonate, phenate or carboxylate of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, or an amine, either aliphatic or aromatic. An example describes the hydroformylation of hex-1-ene using (PPh 3 ) 2 CORhCl as catalyst. HRh(PPh 3 ) 2 CO is said to be formed in situ.
