Abstract
1,219,635. Applying test radiation to a detector system. B.V. NEMIROVSKY, B.A. KOROTIN, B.S. SHATALIN and V.A. MITJUNIN. March 7, 1968, No. 1110/68. Heading G1A. In a device for test-irradiating a radiation detector itself serving a monitoring function, a radio-active source is controlled by means of an electromagnetic mechanism to displace angularly the source or an intervening screen to apply test radiation as and when required. The electromagnetic mechanism may be remotely controlled and may bring a source to an aperture in a shield or may move the source from a rest position to a position where the radiation falls on the detector. A number of sources may be brought to a corresponding number of apertures and the radiation may be directed at more than one detector. A number of different types of detectors are listed and suitable isotopes are exemplified. Use in a system to determine the alpha and beta activity of radio-active aerosols is referred to.
