Abstract

1,219,344. Dispensing measured quantities of liquids or fluent solids. ENGLISH GLASS CO. Ltd. 6 Aug., 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 21872/68. Heading B8N. A device for dispensing measured quantities of liquid or fluent solid from a container is adapted to be attached to the mouth of the container and comprises a cup 12 axially slidable within a sleeve 13. The sleeve includes a partition wall 2 slidably received in slots 20 in the cup and dividing the device into two passages 3, 6. Inlet openings 8, 9 in the sleeve are opened to the interior of the device, when the cup is moved upwardly, via apertures 14, 15 in the cup. Lugs 23 on the cup limit its upward movement. In use, when the openings 8, 9 are aligned with apertures 14, 15 inversion of the container will cause liquid or fluent solid to flow into passage 3. Return of the container to its normal position will cause the liquid or solid in passageway 3 to flow into chamber 5, and upon subsequent inversion of the container the liquid or solid in the chamber 5 will be discharged at the same time as a further quantity of liquid or solid is flowing into passageway 3. In an alternative embodiment a sleeve 26 including a partition wall 2<SP>1</SP> is rotatably received within a cup 27. As shown the device is adapted to be a push fit in the mouth of a container. However the device may be attached to the container by being screwed on to an internally or externally acrow-threaded mouth. Only a single inlet opening may be provided. The device when mounted in a container may, when not in use, be covered by a screw-on cap. The device of Fig. 1 may include a spring so that the cup will move to open communication between the inlet openings and the chamber 5 when the cap is removed. Alternatively the device may include a cap which when removed will leave the device in a condition ready for dispensing.
