Abstract
1,218,885. Differential gears; spring motors. WURLITZER CO. 12 Feb., 1969 [1 March, 1968], No. 7678/69. Headings F2D and F2S. [Also in Divisions G4-G6] A counter registering the total cash value of coins inserted in a coin-operated device (see Divisions G4-G6) is driven through a shaft having a constant driving torque applied thereto by a spring motor, the shaft being released for rotation on receipt of a coin in the device under the control of a differential mechanism. Differential mechanism.-Half shafts 36, 38 differential gear sets 56, 62, 64 and 58, 66, 68 respectively, bevel gears 62, 64, 66 and 68 being loosely mounted on the shafts 36, 38 and crown gears 56, 58 being rotatable on shafts 52, 54 carried by members 44, 46 fast with the shafts 36, 38. A constant driving torque is applied to gear ring 90 fixed to crown gears 84, 86 engaging bevel gears 76, 78 secured to the shafts 36, 38. Rotation is normally prevented by solenoid operated pawls 72 engaging pawls 70 on the level gears 62, 64, 66, 68. Spring motor.-Gear 94 (Fig. 12) driving gear 90 is attached to hub 93 free to rotate on shaft 92 under the action of a spring 102 which is attached to the shaft at one end and a drum 104 fast with hub 93 at the other end. A cam 110 on plate 106 attached to the drum engages one end of an L-shaped lever 112 which is pivotally mounted to disc 116, being fast with shaft 92. The shaft passes through a hole in a bowed portion of the L-shaped lever, the latter being separated from a switch actuating lever 124 by washer 122. When the gear ring 90 is freed to rotate it is driven by the spring via cog-wheel 94, and as this turns the cam 110 rotates with it, freeing the L-shaped lever and allowing it to state clockwise under the influence of spring 129 on the switch operating lever. The switch 128, 130 closes, whereby motor 140 is actuated and rotates shaft 92 via gearing 136, 163 to rewind spring 102 until the L-shaped lever once again engages cam 110, whereupon the switch opens and tne motor stops.
