Abstract

1,218,752. Reamers. F. J. SALCUMBE and D. F. JONES. 14 May, 1968 [1 June, 1967; 31 Aug., 1967], Nos. 25234/67 and 39893/67. Heading B3C. A reamer comprises a body 2, Figs. 1-3, an indexible cutter 1, and a keep 5. A plate 13, Fig. 6, sits in a recess 18 in the cutter and has a series of holes 16 for engagement by a dowel 19 in cutter 1, a hole 17 for engagement with a peg 20 in the keep 5, and a Vee-groove 14 for engagement by projections 10 on the keep, Fig. 3. When a portion of the cutting edge is worn, the cutter is indexed until dowel 19 engages in the next hole 16. The cutter can float in the radial direction due to the clearance of screw 6 in the bores 15, 16 of the plate and cutter. In a modification, the cutter has two dowels 19 and there are sets of holes 16 on each side of groove 14. Plate 13 may be dispensed with, and the cutter 1 provided with sets of grooves 33, Fig. 9.
