Abstract

1,218,737. Electro-chemical analysis. BAILEY METERS & CONTROLS Ltd. Jan. 24, 1968 [Jan. 24, 1967], No.3499/67. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G3] The invention relates to avoiding or compensating for the temperature dependence of signals from a solid electrolyte oxygen detector cell, either by varying the reference gas composition or pressure to produce a null signal or by introducing a temperature compensation signal. Three arrangements are described for determining the oxygen content of e.g. FLUE GASFig. 1 (not shown) the pressure of the reference gas is preset by a regulator (4) to the desired (SET POINT) oxygen partial pressure. The deviation signal may actuate an alarm or control the fuel supply to correct the flue gas composition. Fig. 2 (not shown) the error signal operates a servo-null system to regulate the pressure of the reference gas, which is measured by a pressure transducer. Fig. 3 (not shown) a resistance thermometer (34) is used in a potential divider circuit to compensate the cell output signal. The cell may be surrounded by an electric heater if necessary to maintain it above the minimum operating temperature.
