Abstract

1,218,424. Removal of chlorine. CABOT CORP. 31 May, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 26331/68. Heading C1A. Chlorine is absorbed in a liquid composition comprising sulphur monochloride and up to 30 mole per cent based on the sulphur monochloride of a halide or oxyhalide or a mixture thereof of a tetravalent Group IVA metal. At atmospheric pressure the absorption temperature should be less than 60‹ C. and the chlorine may be regenerated at over 100‹ C. Suitable metal compounds are titanium tetrachloride, titanium tetraoxychloride, hafnium tetrachloride and zirconium tetrabromide.
