Abstract

1,218,064. Liquid developers. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K. K. Jan.22, 1968 [Jan.20, 1967] No.3319/68. Heading G2H. An electro-photographic liquid developer in which the toner particles bear a negative charge comprises (i) a carrier liquid (vol. resistivity > 10<SP>9</SP> #cm, K <3À5) (ii) a charge control agent insoluble in the carrier liquid which is a polymer (iii) a pigment in powder form (iv) a resin or oil soluble in the carrier (v) and 0.5 to 20% based on the weight of the carrier liquid of a dispersion stabilizer which is a resin, oil or wax. Specified carrier liquids (i) are heptane, hexane, kerosene, cyclohexane, gasoline, light oil solvent naphtha and halogenated hydrocarbons. Specified charge control agents (ii) are PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinylidene fluoride, chlorinated rubber or polypropylene and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl alcohol, malaic acid, acrylates, acrylonitrile and/or chlorotrifluoro ethylene. Specified carrier liquid soluble resins are thermoplastic acrylic resins, drying and non-drying oil type alkyd resins, epoxy esters, resin modified phenol modified and styrenated alkyd resins, resin modified phenol-formaldehyde resins, phenol-formaldehyde resin malteic acid resins and epoxy esters of vegetable oil fatty acids. Specified oils are linseed, tung, soyabean, peanut and sesame oil. Specified dispersion stabilizers are linseed oil, soyabean oil and soyabean lecithin. Specified pigments in examples are c black, phthalocyanine blue e green, alkali blue, Hansa yellow, T 1 0 2 , tartrazine, acid violet 7 and acid blue 54. Others are listed. The developer may be used in conjunction with a gauge electrode for reversal development. If the dye or pigment is soluble it may be transferred by solvent transfer to a gelatine layer and use to produce a multi-colour image. The image may be heat fixed.
