Abstract

1,218,034. Tilting mechanisms for converters. DEMAG A.G. 9 Jan., 1968 [27 May, 1967], No. 1292/68. Heading F4B. A common drive system 4, including one or more drive motors 17 is located between adjacent converters 1, 2, so that the or each motor may be optionally used for tilting either or both of the converters. The electric motors 17 may be connected to reduction gear assemblies 13, 14 and 15, 16, which respectively drive planetary gear units 11 and 12 mounted on the trunnions 5 and 6 of the respective converters 1 and 2, through flexible clutch couplings 23 capable of accommodating relative displacement of the motors and the gear assemblies due to sagging of the trunnions 5 or 6. Preferably two driving motors are connectable to each reduction gear assembly (Fig. 2, not shown). Torque resistant fixing means 19, 21 and 22 prevent rotation of the housings of the reduction gear assemblies and the planetary gear units respectively. Stop means (not shown) may be provided to retain the converters in their tilted positions. All of the gear assemblies may be located below the level of the converter platform 3.
