Abstract

1,217,941. Oxazoline esters. SHERWINWILLIAMS CO. 17 Jan., 1968 [24 Jan., 1967], No. 2550/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C4] Oxazoline esters of the Formula I wherein R is a C 4-17 aliphatic group of iodine value less than 160, or a cyclic group selected from phenyl, alkyl-, alkoxy- or halo-substituted phenyl groups and the residue of a decarboxylated rosin acid; R 1 is a -(CH 2 ) n OCOR group, wherein n is 1 or 2; and R 2 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl or -(CH 2 ) m OCOR group, wherein m is 1 or 2; at least one of R, R 1 and R 2 containing a C 4-17 aliphatic group and at least one of them containing a cyclic group; are obtained by reacting bis or tris hydroxyalkylamines of the formula HO-(CH 2 ) n CR<SP>1</SP>-(NH 2 )-CH 2 OH, R<SP>1</SP> being a hydrogen atom or a methyl or -(CH 2 ) m OH group, with appropriate C 5-18 aliphatic carboxylic acids and cyclic acids. The compounds are useful as vehicles for pigmented colour bases (see Division C4).
