Abstract

1,217,915. Transferring designs. O. R. F. AF STROM. 19 July, 1968, No. 34642/68. Heading B6C. A picture is transferred from an original support to a final support by being affixed to a temporary base, after which the original support is replaced by the final one and the temporary base removed. First a layer of a transparent water-insoluble pressure-sensitive adhesive is applied to the face of the picture by transfer from a backing sheet which is then removed, preferably by separation from the adhesive along a silicone parting layer, then the temporary base is applied, and is held by the adhesive. The temporary base comprises a carrier, an intermediate layer and a layer of lacquer which contacts the adhesive. When the initial support is removed the picture is held by the adhesive to the lacquer. The final support is then substituted, and removal of the carrier and intermediate layer leaves the final support and picture covered by the adhesive and lacquer layers. The intermediate layer may be watersoluble, consisting of starch and gum-arabic for example, and be removed by washing. Alternatively, it may be a thin layer of a silicon.
