Abstract

1,217,846. Separating phosphatides. UNILEVER Ltd. 28 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967], No. 54905/67. Heading C2C. A process for separating an N-acylphosphat. ide from a phosphatide without an acylatable amino group comprises making a mixture of them basic with a nitrogen base to produce a pH of at least 8À5 under aqueous conditions, and solvent-fractionating with acetone or methyl acetate. The phosphatide mixture generally contains lecithin and cephalin and the N-acyl groups are formed by acylation of the starting mixture, preferably with a fatty acid anhydride in the presence of an amine catalyst. Suitable nitrogen bases are those having a pk a of at least 9, and the solvent extraction is preferably carried out at room temperature.
