Abstract

1,217,627. Jib cranes. HARNISCHFEGER CORP. 22 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No .36679/69. Heading B8B. A crane boom B comprises telescopic base, intermediate, third and fourth sections 10, 12, 14, 16. The base section 10 is pivotally mounted for luffing and the boom B is supported by a cable system S extending between the boom tip 25 and a winch 5 as described in Specification 1,215,798. As shown in Fig. 2 a flat woven flexible belt 60 is anchored at 16a to the rear end of section 16 and also to the forward end of the section 12 at 12a, being trained around sheaves 62, 64 at the opposite ends of the section 14. A similar belt 70 is similarly connected between the section 10 and the section 14. This arrangement is such that moving the intermediate section 12 relative to the base section 10, as by a doubleacting hydraulic piston and cylinder 80, as shown in Fig. 1, results in simultaneous extending or contracting movements between the sections 10, 12, 14, 16. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which a fluid motor 83 drives a roller chain 85 attached at 86 to the section 12 and passing over sprockets 82, 84 on the section 10 provides the motive power.
