Abstract
1,217,553. Flare stacks. AIROIL BURNER CO. (G.B.) Ltd. 25 Feb., 1969 [21 March, 1968], No. 13721/68. Heading F4T. Air is prevented from entering a flare stack and forming an explosive mixture when the stack is not in use by the provision of a trap comprising two tubular members 10, 11, one within the other, and walls 16, 17, 18 to form a series of communicating chambers 30, 31, 32 through which, in operation, waste gas flows upwardly, downwardly and upwardly respectively, the gas trapped in chambers 30 and 31 on cessation of operation preventing ingress of air except by diffusion, which is compensated for by injection of an oxygen-free make-up gas through an inlet 40. Liquid condensing in the trap runs away through a siphon tube 21.
