Abstract

121,742. Haefely et Cie, Akt.-Ges., E. Dec. 22, 1917, [Convention date]. Coating fabrics in long lengths.-Paper or other fibrous fabric is coated with an adhesive material for insulating purposes by passing the fabric in direct contact with solid lac or resin either through a powder supplying reservoir or over a melting block, and melting the lac or resin upon the web by a heating action in a manner known for the fabrication of india-rubber clothes, waterproof clothes, &c., such as described in Specifications 8636/03 and 3112/08. As shown in Fig. 1, the fabric a passes through a trough c containing the powdered material, and under a gauge d which is vertically adjustable to control the amount of material applied. Auxiliary slides d<1> may be provided when portions of the width of the fabricaro to be left bare. After leaving the trough, the fabric passes under a stationary or rotary grooved distributing roller e, and then over the hot roller f. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the material is rubbed on from a block p and melted on the fabric a as the latter passes over the heated roller. By closing down the gauge d or removing the block p, lengths of fabric may be left free from coating material, as desired.
