Abstract
1,216,978. Semi-conductor pulse and switching circuits. OTIS ELEVATOR CO. 14 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 13630/69. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] In a Ward-Leonard control system for a lift, resistors in series with the generator field are sequentially short circuited for acceleration by contactors having coils 1E . . . 4E which are energized in turn by electronic switching means responsive to repetitive impulses. The impulses are produced by a relaxation oscillator across a Zener diode Z 1 and comprising a unijunction transistor T1, capacitor C1 and resistors R2, S and 1EP; the latter may be short circuited by contacts 1E4 closed by the first contactor 1E so that subsequent ones are energized at shorter intervals. The "electronic switching means" comprises a pair of thyristors SCR1, SCR2 in a multivibrator circuit and connected through diodes D4 ... D7 to odd and even numbered contactor coils respectively. The impulses are applied to the triggers of SCR1 and SCR2 via diodes D1 and D2 respectively; the first pulse is passed by D1 because D2 is back biased by the potential on a capacitor C2, but when SCR1 conducts this potential is lowered so that the next pulse is passed by D2 to trigger SCR2. Conduction of either thyristor switches the other one off by commutating capacitor C3. The contactors have "hold-on" contacts 1E1 ... 4E1, interlock contacts 1E2 ... 3E2 and are sequentially de-energized by mechanically operated contacts SLS1 ... SLS4.
