Abstract

1,216,429. Mudguards. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 17 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 19703/69. Heading B7J. A two-axled vehicle has on its underside flow guiding elements 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> which act to produce a flow of air inclined downwardly towards the rear of the vehicle to keep down dirt thrown up when the vehicle is in motion, the element 1<SP>11</SP> being disposed immediately in front of the front axle, the element 1<SP>1</SP> being disposed immediately in front of the rear axle and the element 1 being disposed immediately behind the rear axle. The elements may be attached underneath the floor of the vehicle or alternatively they may be embodied in the construction of the floor. As shown, the elements 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> extend across the whole width of the vehicle parallel to the axles and elements 1<SP>1</SP> and 1<SP>11</SP> are provided with deflectors 3 which give an air flow laterally of the vehicle. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the vehicle has the element 1<SP>11</SP> extending in a curve across most of the width of the vehicle and the element 1<SP>1</SP> is in two parts at an angle to each other. The elements may be as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), each element being a hollow body having open inflow and outflow openings, the outflow opening being the smaller so that a nozzle effect is achieved.
