Abstract

121,598. Erslev, K. Dec. 15, 1917, [Convention date]. Tobacco.-To improve inferior or ordinary tobacco and give it a flavour resembling Havana and other tobacco of superior quality, it is treated with liquids in which fresh cultures of one or more of the following micro-organisms have been cultivated, viz. :-Butyric acid ferments, species of aeroegenes, butyl ferments, aromatic lactic acid bacteria, ester-forming species of torula, esterforming fungi. The tobacco leaves may be treated with the liquid bacteria cultures or products before or after fermentation. Culture liquids such as malt extract, milk, whey, saccharine solutions, &c. may be used, or decoctions of leaves blossoms, roots, or aromatic vegetable substances, with sugar or feeding substances, for the cultivation of the micro-organisms.
