Abstract
1,215,604. Shaking apparatus. M. ZIPPERER and A. WANNINGER. 16 Jan., 1968 [17 Jan., 1967; 24 April, 1967; 5 May, 1967], No. 2337/68. Heading B1C. [Also in Division H2] Apparatus for mixing by vibrating and shaking comprises a resiliently suspended support of a magnetic material or having a first magnet connected thereto, means for fixing a load thereon, and a second magnet interacting with the support or first magnet, the poles of the second magnet being periodically variable in relation to the effective poles of the support or first magnet (either physically or by pole changing), the frequency of the variation being adjustable to the natural frequency of support and load to generate resonant vibrations. As shown in Fig. 3 a first bar magnet 8 is fixed to the resiliently supported mounting plate 4 and interacts with a second magnet 9 of similar configuration rotated by a variable speed reactor 11. The magnet 8 may be releasably attached to the mounting plate so that when released it rotates with the magnet 9, see Fig. 7 (not shown); a magnetic stirrer (31) may then be placed in liquid in a vessel mounted on the mounting plate 4. The attachment of the magnet 8 to the mounting plate may be by means of a ratchet or a freewheel device (33, Figs. 8 and 9, not shown), so that change-over from vibration to stirring may be effected by reversing the motor 11. The bar magnets 8, 9 may be replaced by electromagnets. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the second magnet is an electronic agent (9a). The polarity of which is cyclically reversed by an electric or electronic device (18) the frequency of which is regulable. In a further embodiment (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown) the mounting plate 4 is of soft iron excited by a stationary electro-magnet 9b, the frequency and amplitude of the exciting force being variable. Means for the electronic control of the existing force may consist of a current source (43, Fig. 12 not shown) supplying an oscillator (41) generating a variable frequency which is fed through an amplifier and regulator to the electro-magnet 9b. A pick-off (38, see also Fig. 11, not shown) monitors the vibrations of the plate 4 and generates a signal representative thereof, which is fed back to a frequency controller (39), which compares the frequency of the plate and the exciting frequency generated by the oscillator (41) and adjusts the latter to resonance. A switch (42) parents the automatic control to be inactivated. The mounting plate may have resistance, induction or infrared heating means (44, Fig. 13 not shown).
