[Also in Division H2] A filing cabinet of the type in which a plurality of pans are pivotally suspended on arms attached to endless chains has an automatic selective retrieval system and a manual selective retrieval system. The automatic system has a number of selector switches 66 corresponding to the number of pans and by such selection of the appropriate switch the conveyer is driven until the desired pan is opposite the work station. The manual system is brought into operation by a change-over switch 50 and comprises up and down holding circuits 79, 81 in parallel with an up or down control switch 21, 22. The system being in series with up and down relays UR-2, DR-2 for controlling the conveyer motor. A level switch 23, designed to ensure a pan is brought to a stop in alignment with the work station, is disposed above said work station to be operated by a further pan when the predetermined pan is adjacent said work station and comprises a pair of switches 31, 32, having respective poles LS9-A, LS9-B, LS9C and LS8-A, LS8B, LS8C, actuated by lugs 42, 43 extending into the path of an idler 14 attached to each pair of arms supporting the pans. In operation say e.g. to bring the pan X to the work station 4 the switch 22 isactuated to drive the conveyer downwards, the poles LS9-A, LS9-B, LS9-C, and LS8-A, LS8-B, LS8C being in the position shown. When the pan IX reaches the work station the switch 22 is released but the down holding circuit is still made through pole LS9-A and thus the conveyer continues its downward movement. The switch 31 is then actuated by a roller 14 to break LS9-A and LS9-C and make LS9-B thus stopping the conveyer with the pan X in said work station. The closing of LS9-C actuates an "out" relay 58 to control the movement of a power driven ejector mechanism 20 to eject a drawer in said pan X into the position shown at 19. A similar operation is performed in conjunction with switch 32 and poles LS8-A, LS8-B, LS8-C when the conveyer is moved in the "up" direction. In the case where down switch 22 is released late and the pan X overruns the work station the pole LS9-A is remade and the conveyer drive continued wherein contacts LS9C and LS8C are also remade to reverse any movement of the ejector mechanism and return the same to its retracted position.
