Abstract
1,215,125. Defrosting. V. F. H. BODCHER. 24 Jan., 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 4055/69. Heading F4H. A refrigeration system comprises a compressor 1, condenser 2 and evaporator 3, a defrost line 9 for conveying refrigerant vapour from the top of the condenser to the top of the evaporator, a return line 10 for returning refrigerant from the evaporator to the bottom of the condenser, and valve means 11, 12 for opening and closing lines 9 and 10. As shown, 11 and 12 are separate valves but lines 9, 10 may have a common section provided with a single valve which when open permits gaseous and liquid refrigerant to pass simultaneously in counterflow through the section (Fig. 2, not shown). For defrosting, valves 11 and 12 are opened and the compressor simultaneously de-energized so that warm vapour passes through line 9 into the evaporator where it condenses, the condensate passes to a receiver 6 and thence through line 10 to the condenser where it is re-evaporated.
