Abstract

121,473. Otterson, G. W. Dec. 8, 1917, [Convention date]. Cleaning, fluid-pressure processes for.-Sewers are cleaned by means of an hydraulic ejector drawn through the sewer and having two pipes, through one of which the ejector is supplied with water, the other serving to convey away the deposit under propulsion by the ejector. The ejector head is of U-form, one limb connected to a water-supplying hose-pipe 7, the other formed with a nozzle 9, intake openings 11, and restriction 10, and connected to a pipe 12 conveying the removed deposit away. Forwardly or laterally directed jets 21 may be provided. A conical collector 17 of sheet metal surrounds the ejector as shown, and a frame 22 serves to aid in guiding and supporting the device. The members 17, 22 may have supporting rollers (not shown), and the mouth of the cone 17 may have a grating to prevent access of unbroken deposit, &c., liable to choke the device. The apparatus is inserted through a manhole b and is drawn through the sewer to a second manhole c by a cable 24 and winch 27. The pipe 12 discharges into a receptacle 14, which may be a settling bed, and water is supplied through the pipe 7 from a pressure main or by a pump 34 which may derive the water from the vessel 14.
