Abstract

1,214,360. Ratchet clutches. HANNING ELEKTRO-WERKE ROBERT HANNING. 26 April, 1968, No. 19869/68. Headings F2C and F2U. In a clutch (5) between a low speed reversible motor (1) and a high speed motor (2) of a washing machine wherein a driving shaft 11 of the reversible motor is connected by a linkage to arms 14 integral with shoes 10 pivoted on a carrier disc 13 and carrying friction linings 9 engageable with a driven drum 8 fast with the high speed motor shaft 6, means are provided to limit the torque transmitted. As shown the driving shaft 11 is connected to the arms 14 by resilient pins 15 and a plate 17 fast with the driving shaft 11 limits relative rotation between the driving shaft 11 and carrier plate 13. On initial rotation of the driving shaft 11 the plate 13 is held by a drag brake 20 until the shoes 10 pivot one pair of the linings 9 into engagement with the drum 8 for clutch engagement. On overload pivot pins 12 fast with the disc 13 engage the sides of recesses in the plate 17 and prevent further relative rotation between the driving shaft 11 and disc 13 which limits the clutch engaging force and thus permits slip. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the driving shaft (11) is connected to the arms (14) by a torque limiting friction slip coupling which comprises discs (24, 25) fast with the driving shaft (11) and urged by a spring (23) into engagement with a disc (22) having recesses engaged by the ends of the arms 14. The friction linings 9 may be sound damping and shock absorbing.
