Abstract
1,213,597. Centrifugal moulding, concrete pipes. INTERPACE CORP. 30 May, 1969 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 27635/69. Heading B5A. Concrete pipes are moulded in an apparatus comprising a hollow cylindrical mould 11 having running rings 13, 14 supported on a roller shaft 17 extending through the rings and mould to suspend and rotate the mould and having means to vibrate the mould perpendicularly to its axis. The mould comprises an outer cylinder 12 and end members 13, 14 which also form the running rings. The mould is supported and rotated by roller shaft 17 which is mounted at end 18 on a roller bearing 35, which can be removed for access to a formed pipe section and at the other end 15, where it is driven, by a roller bearing 22. When bearing 35 is removed, the shaft 17 is supported by a chain 40, tightened by hydraulic piston and cylinder 43. The transverse vibration is created by ridges 73, 45 on the shaft 17 adjacent the running rings 13, 14. The ridges 45 (and also ridges 73) project through slots 46 in the wall of a tubular section of shaft 17. The bases 47 of the ridges 45 engage a conical wedge 49 which can be moved longitudinally of shaft 17 to vary the height of the ridges above the surface of the shaft. In use, the ridges are initially in their highest position and are lowered so that the mould is rotating on a smooth shaft before the end of the moulding cycle. In alternative embodiments the shaft and mould ring each have two different radii so that the shaft can drive the ring either smoothly or with vibration.
