Abstract

1,213,408. Rotor blade fixing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 31, 1968 [Sept.21, 1967], No.26294,/68. Heading F1T. Each blade 16 of a compressor or like machine is mounted on a rotor disc 18 by engagement of its root 26 in a generally axially extending slot 28 in the disc rim 30, the root 26 being retained axially in the slot 28 by a locking device 32, 34 disposed in the clearance between the lower surface of the root and the base of the slot. The locking device comprises a retaining member 34 having legs 36 engaging opposite faces of the rim 30 and a leg 40 engaging one end of the root 26, and a spacing member 32 mounted above the retainer 34 with a leg 42 engaging the opposite end of the root 26. The members 32, 34 are held together by a bolt 44 passing through a hole 46 in spacer 32 and screwed into a self-locking nut 47 engaging legs 36, 40 of retainer 34. The blade 16 can be removed from the rotor by releasing bolt 44, removing spacer 32 and then moving the blade radially inwards so that the inclined faces of vibration damping clappers (24), Figs 5, 6 (not shown) disengage from the clappers on adjacent blades before withdrawing the blade axially. In a modification, the locking device is inverted so that the retainer 34 lies above the spacer 32 with its legs 36 engaging the opposite ends of the root 26. Projections 48 on spacer 32 prevent air-flow through the clearance space and prevent radial shifting of the spacer and retainer under the action of centrifugal forces.
