Abstract

1,213,225. Bag filling apparatus. BLACK PRODUCTS CO. 13 Aug., 1968 [14 Aug., 1967; 16 July, 1968], No. 38741/68. Heading B8C. In a bag filling machine, finely divided material is fed from a bin 19 into a flexible sleeve 23 provided at its lower end with a fluidizing hopper 20 having a bag filling flexible horizontal outlet tube 27, 28. In operation, starting from the position in which the outlet tube is pinched shut by valve 33 and material fills the hopper and sleeve, the valve 33 is opened and at the same time air under pressure from pipes 38 is directed against the sleeve. This forces the walls of the sleeve together and the constriction caused thereby travels down the sleeve thus forcing material through the outlet tube and into the bag 32. When the bag is sufficiently full, scale mechanism 26 is tripped to cause the valve 33 to pinch the outlet tube sheet and the supply of air to pipe 38 to be discontinued. The constriction on the sleeve is thus removed and further material falls into the sleeve and hopper readiness for the next cycle. In a second embodiment (see Fig. 13, not shown) the constriction is applied by a pair of vertically movable pinch rolls horizontally reciprocable into and out of contact with the sleeve.
