Abstract

Rail de-icing equipment comprises a frame formed of members 2-7 adapted to be detachably connected to the front or rear of a rail vehicle by means of spigots 8, 9 and screw holes 10, the frame members 2, 3 being spaced apart the same distance as rails 11, 12 and mounting burners 13-16 which are supplied with gaseous or liquid fuel through conduits 17 from a connection 18. Stop-cocks 20 are provided for each burner and a further movable burner may be fixed to connection 19. Fuel gas cylinders may be mounted on the rail vehicle and the burners electrically ignited from the vehicle cab. The frame may hinge vertically about member 4 by replacing members 5, 6 by telescopic rams. Also the frame members carrying the burners may be laterally pivotable. Modifications may allow the spacing of the burners on frame members 2, 3 to be adjustable or these members formed so as to be telescopable. The burners may be electrically ignitable.
