Abstract

1,212,798. α - aminobenzyl penicillin. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 21 May, 1968 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 24102/68. Heading C2A. The sodium salt of α - aminobenzyl - penicillin is prepared by admixing anhydrous ampicillin with an excess of diethylamine in methylene chloride to form a solution of the diethylamine salt of ampicillin, admixing with said solution an approximately molar equivalent of sodium 2 - ethylhexanoate, admixing the resulting solution with substantially anhydrous acetonitrile and, after crystallization has occurred, separating the crystals which have formed. The temperature is 0‹ to 15‹ C. and the acetonitrile is added slowly with stirring e.g. at 0‹ + 1‹ C. Anhydrous ampicillin is prepared according to Specification 1,003,863. Specifications 873,049, 980,240, 1,060,034, 1,060,445 and 1,128,235 are referred to.
