Abstract

121,258. Gibson, A. L. July 4, 1918. Fire-proof curtains. - A flexible fire-proof curtain 6, partly counterbalanced by a spring attached to the roller on which it is wound and provided with thermal means for releasing the roller on a rise of temperature, is provided with a removable weight 19, which is engaged by means such as hooks 21 at the lower edge of the curtain so that, when in the raised position, the weight assists the starting of the curtain. On the curtain descending a certain distance, the weight is engaged by stops 20, whereupon the curtain completes its descent owing to its own weight. The thermal means for releasing the curtain comprise a chain 17, Fig. 2, provided with a fusible link 18 attached to a lever 16, which holds the lever 15 in engagement with the toothed wheel 14 mounted on the roller of the curtain. The barrel 5 on which the curtain is rolled is supported on a shaft 7, Fig .1, extending through a bracket 8, and has attached thereto an adjusting-wheel 9 engaged by a pin for holding the shaft in its adjusted position. The drum is connected to the shaft 8 by a helical spring 11 and carries at its other end a shaft 12, to which the toothed wheel 14 is attached.
