Abstract

1,212,352. Moulding machines. RUBERY OWEN & CO. Ltd. 28 Nov., 1967 [30 May; 1967; 10 Oct., 1967], Nos. 24815/67 and 46163/67. Heading B3F. An apparatus for receiving sand-packed mould halves from a moulding machine and segregating them into two separate streams comprises a pair of mould carrier frames 16, 17 that are shuttled together across a transverse frame 15 so that one carrier frame is always positioned at a mid-position to receive a mould half and the other carrier frame is aligned with one or other of two conveyers 42 at each end of the frame 15 at discharge positions. A mould half is swept on to a carrier frame 16 by an arm of the mould machine whereupon a cylinder 43 is operated, to pivot crank 44, to push the carrier frame 16 and mould half 21 against roller stops 18. The carrier frames include rollers 20 to facilitate this operation. A pneumatic cylinder 31 is actuated to shuttle the carrier frames 16, 17 to align, e.g. the carrier frame 17 with a conveyer 42. Further pneumatic cylinders (37), (38) (Figs. 1 and 3, not shown), operate sweep arms (35), (36) to push the carrier frames 16, 17 and mould halves 21, 22 on to the conveyer 42. The carrier frames include drill units 23, 24, 25, 26 mounted on linkage 27, 28, 29, 30 for drilling pouring channels and risers in the mould halves. The drill units may be arranged to drill a fixed pattern of holes or may be adjustable to alternative patterns depending on the delivery of copes and drags, or of different moulds from moulding machine. The drill units may also be mounted on the frame 13 of the apparatus. The holes are drilled either during transfer of the carrier frames from the mid-position to the discharge position, or at the discharge position.
