Flower and vegetable seeds are irradiated prior to planting with gamma-rays from a radio isotope such as (60 Co) or (137 Cs) in doses varying from 100 to 2,000 roentgens according to the kind of seeds and its moisture content, the latter being preferably arranged to be 66% although it can lie between a minimum of 10-12% and a maximum of 85%. The intensity of the exposure is preferably between 10 and 500 roentgens per minute. The seeds may be moved about with respect to the radiation source during exposure.
