Abstract
1,211,642. Porous polyisocyanurates. MOBAY CHEMICAL CO. 1 Jan., 1968 [9 Jan., 1967], No. 135/68. Headings C3C and C3R. A porous polyisocyanurate polymer which is free of groups that undergo thermal cleavage at a temperature below that of the isocyanurate group is produced by mixing an organic polyisocyanate with a blowing agent inert to isocyanate groups, a foam stabilizer and a catalyst for reacting the polyisocyanate with itself to form the polyisocyanurate, in the absence of moisture and reactants which will form groups that undergo thermal cleavage as above. The polyisocyanate may be a mixture of formula where m is 1-3, n is 0À5-2À0, X is H, halogen, C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy or nitro and R is an alkylene group, or a mixture containing toluene diisocyanate. The blowing agent may be hexane, benzene, acetone, trichlorofluoromethane, methylene dichloride or isopropyl chloride. The catalyst may be 2,4,6-tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol. The stabilizer may be a silicone oil of formula where (C 3 H 2n O) is a mixed polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene block copolymer having 17- oxyethylene and 13-oxypropylene units; or sorbitan mono-oleate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate or polyoxyethylated fatty acid.
