Abstract
1,211,418. Programmed control of machine tools. IKEGAI TEKKO K.K. Nov.27, 1968 [Nov.27, 1967], No.56353/68. Heading G3N. [Also in Divisions B3 and G1] A numerically controlled machine tool, incorporating a tool selecting arrangement, automatically compensates for deviations of tool position by a measuring element sensing the dimensions of a workpiece on receipt of command information and providing a tool deviation signal for use in automatically correcting the commanded tool feed. As shown, a controller 2 controls movement of a turret C in dependence on command information from a punched tape read by a reader 1. A function device 3 actuates relays, not shown, to index the turret C and select a tool B 1 -B m in response to signals from the reader 1. Upon completion of indexing a confirmation signal F in is fed back to device 3 to initiate machining. A measuring element having a feeler 6 is movable in the X and Y directions, through identical steps with the turret C, to engage a workpiece and the X and Y axes position errors are detected by differential transformers within the measuring element casing. The analog error signals are fed to an analogueto-digital converter 7 wherein they are transformed to binary coded decimal values which are fed to the controller 2, wherein they are memorized and used for tool correction of input command position values from the tape reader 1. The tool errors are derived automatically in response to command information read by the tape reader after the passage of a predetermined time. The measuring element comprises a feeler mounted for axial and transverse movement by parallel leaf springs. Axial and movement, transverse of the feeler are detected by differential transformers. The cores of the transformers are each adjusted to give zero transformer output when the dimension of the measured portion of the workpiece is equal to the commanded value.
