Abstract

1,211,223. Auxiliary supply sources. COUTANT ELECTRONICS Ltd. 31 Jan., 1968 [7 March, 1967], No. 10644/67. Heading H2H A D.C. supply obtained from an A.C. source by way of a rectifier and provided with a filter capacitor is maintained, should momentary failure of the A.C. source occur, by the discharge of a further capacitor which may either assist or take over from the filter capacitor thereby ensuring continuance of the D.C. supply during the failure. A main D.C. supply obtained by means of a rectifier from an A.C. source is provided with a filter capacitor CR which potential across which varies about a mean value as it charges and discharges during operation. A second capacitor C2 connected to the main D.C. terminals by way of a resistor R2 charges up to the mean potential of the capacitor CR. An auxiliary D.C. supply is formed by a capacitor C1 which is normally charged to a higher potential than the potential of the main D.C. supply and, if desired, this auxiliary D.C. supply may be obtained from the same A.C. source as is the main D.C. supply. Should a failure of the A.C. source occur the potential of the cathode and gate of a controlled rectifier SOR1 become such that the rectifier becomes conductive whereupon the charge on the capacitor C1 is dumped into capacitor CR to maintain the function of capacitor CR during the failure. When the A.C. source is restored the controlled rectifier SCR1 becomes non-conductive thereby allowing the capacitor C1 to become charged once again. In a second embodiment the arrangement is such that upon a failure of the A.C. source the capacitor CR is isolated from the main A.C. source and its function taken over by the capacitor C1.
