Abstract
1,211,154. Cooling gases. POWER GAS CORP. Ltd. 23 July, 1969 [12 July, 1968], No. 33502/68. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B1] A heat exchanger for cooling and cleaning a gas, e.g. hot particle laden gas from an incinerator, comprises a plurality of tortuous passages 16 arranged in parallel. Part of each passage is defined by walls of vertical ducts 10 through which cooling fluid, e.g. air or water, is circulated. The ducts are connected at their upper and lower ends to horizontally extending sets of manifolds (17), 18. The entrained particles in the gas passed through the passages 16 are deposited in pockets 15 formed between adjacent ducts 10 where there is an abrupt change in the flow direction. These particles fall downwardly and are collected in chambers 20 located between the manifolds 18. The chambers are enclosed and have upper and lower gas-tight valves in the form of apertured slide plates 21 and 22 which slide in pairs of guides 23. Sequential operation of the slide plates permits removal of the particles without gas leakage. The ducts 10 may be constructed from sheet metal sections welded together (see Fig. 4, not shown).
