Abstract

Coating materials in long lengths.-Relates to coating strips of celluloid &c. with a sensitized photographic emulsion, and consists in damping the back of the strip a by a wick g and pressing it by a roller e into contact with the periphery of a rigid cylinder f so that the strip remains closely and evenly adherent thereto during the coating and setting operations. The coating is applied by a roller k dipping in a trough m of hot emulsion and rotating in a direction opposite to that of the strip a on the cylinder f. The cylinder f is chilled internally so that the film is set during the remainder of its travel in contact with the cylinder, after which it is stripped from the cylinder and led to a drying-reel.
