Abstract
1,210,478. Top fittings for gas stoves; thermal regenerator. TAPPAN CO. 2 May, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 22518/69. Headings F4K and F4W. A cooking top for a gas stove having infrared gas fired burners comprises a heat-resistant glass top 12, burners 13-16 and rotary regenerative heat exchange means 40 which extracts heat from the products of combustion and uses that heat to warm the incoming air passing to the burners. An electric motor drives a fan in the air inlet duet and drives a second fan in the extraction duct. A gas and air manifold 32, 26 are provided along the front of the cooker top. Turning on any of the burners also energizes the motor. The motor also rotates the heat exchanger by means of a chain drive. The body of the heat exchanger may be formed by winding a strip of corrugated asbestos paper impregnated with sodium silicate solution into cylindrical form.
