Abstract

1,210,465. Vehicle suspensions.. G. W. M LUSH. 25 June, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 16083/68. Heading B7D. [Also in Division F2] A spring consisting of a gas-filled elastomeric enclosure C fitted with an inlet valve G, K has means B, L within the enclosure by which the valve is automatically opened when the spring is compressed beyond a predetermined limit. Excessive expansion of the spring is prevented by an exhaust orifice N becoming uncovered. The spring is designed for use, in conjunction with a source of gas pressure connected to the inlet fitting H, as a self-levelling suspension unit for a self-propelled or trailer vehicle. In the latter case, the trailer may have support struts or legs and the spring be provided with an additional and manually operable exhaust valve so that the spring may be collapsed to allow the trailer to rest on its legs or struts.
