Abstract

1,210,444. Organopolysiloxane resin. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 April, 1969 [6 May, 1968], No. 21386/68. Heading C3T. An organopolysiloxane resin comprises a mixture of organopolysiloxanes (I) containing a proportion of trifunctional silicon atoms and capable of further condensation, the ratio of organic groups to Si atoms being from 1À0:1 to 1À6 : 1, a condensation catalyst (II), and from 0À5-2% by wt. of (I) of water. A solvent for (I), e.g. toluene, xylene, white spirits or diethyl ether may also be present. (I) may contain two or more units of the types R 2 SiO, RSiO 3/2 , R 3 SiO 1/2 and SiO 2 in which R is a monovalent, optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, e.g. an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl radical, especially methyl or phenyl. (I) may be present at 40-80% by wt. of the composition. (II) may be an acetate or octoate of Pb, Sn, Zn or Fe or triethanolamine. The composition may contain a water-miscible alcohol or ketone, e.g. ethanol, isopropanol, acetone or methyl ethyl ketone, which may be present at up to 150% by wt. of the total siloxanes.
