1,209,750. 2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl piperidine and 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl pyridine derivatives. SOC. D'ETUDES DE RECHERCHES ET D'APPLICATIONS SCIENTIFIQUES ET MEDICALES. 2 May, 1968 [9 May, 1967], No. 21599/67. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the general formula E-CH 2 -CHR-O-COR 1 in which R is a hydrogen atom, a methyl radical or an ethyl radical, R 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical, an aryloxymethylene radical which may or may not be substituted in the benzene ring, a 2-furyl radical or a radical -C(R 2 )(R 3 )(C 6 H 5 ) in which R 2 and R 3 are the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl-cycloalkyl or phenyl radical and E is a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine ring or 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-2,2,6,6- tetramethylpyridine ring; are prepared by reacting a hydroxyl-containing derivative of the formula E-CH 2 -CHR-OH with an acid chloride of the formula ClCOR 1 for a period from 30 minutes to 10 hours in an inert solvent and in the presence of at least one basic hydrogen acceptor, or reacting a haloalkylamine of the formula E-CH 2 -CHR-X, X being halogen, with benzoic acid or an alkali metal benzoate at a temperature from 100‹ to 220‹ C. Pharmaceutical compositions of the above compounds having antihistaminic, parasympathicolytic, sympathicolytic, myolytic, local anaesthetic and in particular anlagesic, antiinflammatory and psychotropically tranquillizing activities are administered orally.
