Pathenocarpic fruit are produced on oil palm trees by treatment with a gibberellin and 3- indolyl butyric, 1-naphthyl acetic, 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy acetic, 2 - (2,4,5 - trichlorophenoxy propionic, 2- naphthyloxy acetic, or α-(2-naphthyloxy) propionic acid in an amount of 5-200 mg of each active material per tree. The gibberellin may be gibberellin A 3-7 and may be in the form of acid, salt or ester. The other active material may be in the form of acid, salt, ester, amide or nitrile. The active materials may be applied together or separately. Application may be repeated regularly at intervals before harvest. In the examples, an aqueous solution of gibberellic acid, 2,4-D or 2,4,5-T, and " Lissapol " (Registered Trade Mark), are sprayed on to the trees.
