Abstract

1,209,718. Polymer blends. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 9 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968; 30 Nov., 1968], No. 23790/69. Headings C3G, C3P and C3R. A thermoplastic resin blend comprises a vinyl chloride polymer and a polysulphone. Preferred mixtures contain 10-99% of PVC and 90-1% of polysulphone and are obtained by melt mixing on rollers, in a mixer or in an extruder or by mixing solutions of the two resins e.g. in tetrahydrofuran and co-precipitating, e.g. with methanol. When mixing the solids a low molecular weight liquid is preferably added to prevent discoloration and removed after mixing, preferred is ethylene dichloride. In one embodiment the vinyl chloride polymer is a graft of vinyl chloride on ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer. The preferred polysulphone is obtained from the disodium salt of bis-phenol A and bis-(4-chlorophenyl) sulphone. Optional ingredients used in the examples are tribasic lead sulphate, lead stearate, calcium stearate, a mercapto tin stabilizer or octadecyl stearate.
